Tips for managing frizzy hair in Vancouver's humid climate
Frizzy hair happens to all of us, especially living by the seaside as we do. But there are things you can do to get a handle on it. From conditioning to hot ironing, using hair spray–even embracing it–it can be done! Here are some great tips from our hair salon in Vancouver, to help manage your hair in our humid climate.
The frizzies happen when moisture in the environment is greater than that in your hair. Hair is porous–damaged hair even more so–so as your hair starts to absorb the extra moisture, it changes. This means different things for different hair types. For example, fine hair becomes limp; wavy hair becomes curly, and curly hair becomes, well, chaotic! Fear not though, for we have solutions.
How to manage frizzy hair in humid conditions
Conditioner. Conditioning hair fills the pores and prevents water absorption. So condition your hair after every shampoo and make sure to condition all of it, root to tip.
Leave-in conditioner. For added protection, apply a leave-in conditioner before you head out.
Heat protection. Use of a flat iron or curling iron can help restore your hair’s body. But be sure to use a heat protector to prevent heat damage.
Wash less. Overwashing dries out hair and damages it. Try to find a way to wash less often. Dry shampoos work well for this.
Hairspray. Use a hairspray on dry hair to protect it from extra moisture and keep the frizzies away.
Embrace your hair type. If your hair immediately becomes frizzy in humidity, it may be a sign it’s being styled in a way that goes against its nature, leaving you to fight the frizzy hair battle every time it turns humid.. Expert hairstylists at hair salons in Kitsilano can identify your hair type and texture. They can then recommend a style that’s more in line with what your hair wants to do naturally, and will still look wonderful when the humidity hits.
